Do you remember? – Mark 8: 17-18
“Jesus said to them, ‘Why are you talking about having no bread? Do you still not perceive or understand? Are your hearts hardened? Do you have eyes, and fail to see? Do you have ears, and fail to hear? And do you not remember?”
Jesus often sounds frustrated that his close disciples seem to miss the point of what he says and does. He challenges their perception and their memory. Faced with a large crowd who were getting hungry, he is amazed that the disciples have already forgotten what happened last time they were in that situation. (Mark 6: 30-44)
Have we ever felt like those disciples? Can we be ‘a bit slow’ in our relationship with Jesus? If he has helped us in the past when we have faced a challenge, why then do we find it difficult to believe that he will do the same in the present and the future. Why do we not remember?
When was the last time you felt God had helped you in difficult circumstances and when have you been most aware of his presence? Why not allow those memories to reassure and sustain you in whatever you are facing now and in the future, especially when we all face such uncertain times at the moment.
Prayer:
Lord, I remember how you have heard and answered my prayers, and how you have stayed close to me. Give me the confidence to know that you will always hear my prayers, and walk beside me, all the way to my journey’s end. Amen.
