1210 to 2010 - St Albright’s 800 Years of Christian Witness and Ministry
As you can see from our history, St Albright’s has been a place of Christian worship and witness for at least 800 years. The first known priest was John in 1210. Since then there has been an unbroken succession of faithful priest and lay people who have sought to minister the gospel of Christ to the people of Stanway. There have been many changes over the years both in the building and in the forms of worship. Imagine a much smaller building with no pews, small windows, lit by candle light and the services in Latin. Later the building was expanded and the services in English. I imagine that the introduction of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer caused as much angst as did the introduction of Common Worship a few years ago. And remember the pews, choir stalls and much of the stained glass were Victorian additions.
So 2010 is significant year of celebration. We have planned a number of events and still more are in the pipeline, the main events are listed below but keep an eye on this site for further news.
